FE-1™ Installation Instructions

Three factors are critical to the installation of the FE-1™ Fuel Chips:

  1. Locate the area on which the chips are to be applied.

  2. Properly prepare the surface of the fuel tank where the chips are to be applied.

  3. Attach the chips properly and permanently.

Locate the Area

Locate the vehicle’s fuel tank.  Now locate the area on the tank where the fuel leaves the fuel tank for the engine – usually where the fuel pump is attached.  This is called the “pickup”.  The chips must be installed on the underside of the fuel tank directly below the “pickup” location.  The chips must be no less than 5 inches apart (inside edge to inside edge) and no more than 10 inches apart.  The spots you choose for the chips must also be flat.  Mark these two spots.

Prepare the Surface

Thoroughly clean the two spots you have selected to install the FE-1™ Fuel Chips.  A wire brush is a good tool to use, carefully cleaning any dirt or resins built up on the tank.  It is important to realize that the cleaner the surface the better the FE-1™ Fuel Chips will adhere to the tank and the better results you can expect.

Attach the Chips

Peel off the paper on the reverse side of the FE-1™ Fuel Chips.  Although the adhesive is strong, we recommend you use a “super glue” or “silicone” type product to insure better bonding.  You should only use a small amount of this product.  Put a small amount of the “super glue” or “silicone” on the adhesive side of each of the FE-1™ Fuel Chips (where you have just removed the paper) and press them into position on the spots you have prepared.  Hold the FE-1™ Fuel Chip against the fuel tank until the adhesive has hardened.  There should be nothing covering the exterior of the FE-1™ Fuel Chips after installation.

Special Circumstances

If the vehicle has a shield protecting the fuel tank, you need to get under the shield and apply the FE-1™ Fuel Chips directly to the fuel tank as indicated above.  Do not install on the shield.  Do not use tape or cover the chips in any other manner.  Make sure you have removed the material that covers the adhesive area before installing.  The FE-1™ Logo is not the side of the chips attached to the fuel tank and should be visible after installation (see picture).  Many larger vehicles and equipment will need multiples of chips.  Check with FE-1™ Fuel Solutions to determine the necessary amount of chips for your applications.

FE-1™ Fuel Chips are non-transferable and therefore should not be removed from one vehicle and applied to another.
